My Rubs are Officially Award-Winning (Yeah, I’m Still Smiling)

Well, folks, it happened. I entered my first-ever rub competition—the Barbecue News Magazine Rubs of Honor 2024—and somehow, this guy landed 10th place in the beef category with my Ancho and Pasilla chili rub. Now, I know 10th place might not sound like I’m taking home a golden trophy, but I did get a shiny certificate and a copy of Barbecue News Magazine to prove it. And let’s be real—seeing my rub listed alongside some of the best in the BBQ world? That feels pretty darn cool.

Here’s the deal: I entered all my rubs into the beef category. Why? Because I’m ambitious like that. Out of all the entries, only my Ancho and Pasilla rub placed, and honestly? I’ll take it. This was my first time ever entering a competition like this, and for one of my rubs to hit the Top 10? That’s a win in my book.

Yes, You Gotta Pay to Play

I know someone out there is thinking, “Wait, you had to pay to enter?” Sure did. That’s just how it works. Whether it’s BBQ competitions, chili cook-offs, or pie-baking contests, there’s always an entry fee. You pay it, do your best, and hope your name gets called. It’s all part of the game, and this time, the gamble paid off.

Rising Above the Noise

Here’s where it gets interesting. Since the results came out, a few other black garlic seasoning companies (yes, I see y’all) have been throwing shade. Maybe they’re jealous, maybe they’re just having a rough day—I don’t know. But over here at Prime 4 BBQ, we’re not about that. We’re about staying positive, grinding harder, and letting the results—and the flavor—speak for themselves.

Oh, and now I can officially say my rubs are award-winning. (Yep, I’m going to keep saying it.)

Check Out the Full Story

If you want to see exactly how this all went down—from my rub creation to the moment I saw my name in the magazine—I made a video that explains the whole process. It’s part BBQ journey, part behind-the-scenes, and all kinds of fun. You’ll get the full story, a little humor, and maybe even a spark of inspiration to go chase your own BBQ dreams.

Thanks to everyone who’s supported me, cheered me on, and tried my seasonings. This is just the beginning for Prime 4 BBQ, and I can’t wait to see where we go from here.

And hey, if you haven’t sprinkled my award-winning Ancho and Pasilla rub on your next steak, brisket, or burger yet, you’re missing out. Your meat deserves it.
